Australian Services Union's statement on NDIS funding changes

April 2026

The Federal Government has announced significant changes to the NDIS that will affect both people with disability and the workforce that supports them.

We recognise this announcement has been incredibly unsettling for workers and the disability community. While many details are still unknown, it is evident these changes will have real and far‑reaching consequences for participants and the workforce alike.

The ASU believes that no one should be left without the support they need, whether inside or outside the NDIS. Any changes must ensure continuity of care and maintain access to quality supports.

We are also concerned about the implications for workers. Reform must not come at the cost of job security, hours of work, or increased workload — particularly in a sector already under pressure and facing workforce shortages.

ASU members stood alongside people with disability to win the NDIS, and we will continue to advocate for a system that is codesigned by people with disability and properly values the work of those who deliver support.

We will be meeting with the Government to raise urgent workforce concerns and seek further detail on these proposals. We are also working closely with our members in the disability community, such as People with Disability Australia, to ensure the concerns of both workers and participants are heard.

The ASU will continue to advocate for a fair, sustainable NDIS — one that delivers quality services, secure jobs, and ensures no one is left behind.

NDIS changes: what we know and what comes next

Thank you to the hundreds of ASU members who completed our snap survey last week, we are taking your views directly to the Federal NDIS Minister and have made it clear that:

  • No one should be left without the support they need, inside or outside the NDIS. Any changes must ensure continuity of care and maintain access to quality supports.

  • Reform must also not come at the cost of job security, hours of work, or increased workload.

ASU members stood alongside people with disability to win the NDIS, and we will continue to advocate for a system that is codesigned by people with disability and properly values the work of those who deliver support.
